cyanotype prints
Cyanotype is one of the earliest photographic processes. A light-sensitive emulsion is applied to paper and left to dry, then objects are placed directly on the surface and exposed to UV light for around 30 minutes. Once washed, whatever blocked the light emerges as white against the characteristic deep cyan blue.
For these prints, all shapes and figures are hand-cut from drawings and reused across multiple compositions. Before exposure, elements can be moved freely across the surface, allowing for an intuitive exploration of composition and visual relationship. A story or meaning is rarely premeditated; it tends to reveal itself once the process is complete, which is part of what makes it endlessly interesting.
